Fishing The New River near Sparta in the NC Mountains
A popular location to enjoy fishing and fly fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of Sparta, North Carolina is the ancient streams and mountain brooks that flow from the great New River. The New River was long the source of food supply for the Indians and ancient inhabitants of Alleghany County. The New River Fishing found at the New River is excellent, as much of Alleghany County has remained untouched and in pristine condition. Enjoy a day of fishing with a New River fishing guide or choose from some of the hideaways and popular spots found around the county.
The New River State Park is also an excellent place for fishing. Cast out from the riverbanks and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. You can fish for smallmouth bass and muskellunge trout, but be sure to get your NC fishing license before casting out. Also, at the State Park enjoy canoeing, camping and great hiking.
For guided New River Fishing trips, check out the many New River fishing guides in the area, many of which do day trips and provide the equipment and knowledge of the river. If fly fishing is more what you are looking for, the New River is perfect and there are many locations throughout the county for New River fly fishing.
